"They are really everywhere in POC this spring and some trees have "hundreds" of the leaf pellets under them."


Range: Throughout the eastern half of the U.S. to southeastern Canada. (Arnett et al. 2002)

In Texas, west to at least Travis County. (Quinn, 2000)

Flight Period: April to August in North Carolina. (Brimley, 1938)

March to July, (most late March to late June) in central Texas. (Quinn, 2000)

Size: Adults are approximately 6 mm in length.

Biology: Females are leaf rollers; larvae develop in leaf rolls. (Arnett et al. 2002)

Hosts: Associated with many Oak species - Quercus spp. (Arnett et al. 2002)

Primarily Live Oak (Quercus virginiana) in Central Texas. (Quinn, 2000)

Similar Species: Monotypic genus. (Arnett et al. 2002)

Taxonomy: Formerly in Attelabus

Management: The beetles cause no significant harm to trees. Therefore, control measures are not recommended. - U. Florida
